Lionesses star Toone announced two weeks ago that her father, Nick, had passed away at the age of 59 as she shared stories about him. After a short break, Toone returned to action on Sunday night with Manchester United and played the entirety of the Red Devils' 3-0 win over West Ham. After the game, Toone shared an emotional message for her father.

On her Instagram post on her return to action, Toone wrote: "Tougher than I could have ever imagined. Missed you in the stands today Dad but I know you had the best seat in the stadium and was with me every second. So grateful for my family, friends and amazing team, I wouldn’t have been able to play without youse being there for me. 3 points for you Dad and that goal at OT will come, promise"

SUPPORT FOR TOONE

The Lionesses star received a lot of support from her friends and teammates on her post with best-friend Alessia Russo also sharing a message of support which read: "All so proud sis. He will be proud as always cock".

Toone's boyfriend and Stalybridge Celtic footballer, Joe Bunney wrote: "True strength of character.. He will be super proud of you".

Manchester United star Gabby George wrote: "Words could never do you justice! I’m so proud of you Toones".

The 25-year-old forward will be in action again when Marc Skinner's side take on Everton in the second matchday of the Women's Super League on Sunday, September 29.
